This past Sunday, April 20, our daughter Abigail Marie was baptized. We were fortunate to have many friends and family in town to celebrate with us, both at the Mass and the party following. Abby was so good during the ceremony – she didn’t cry once, although each of the three times the water was poured on her forehead, her startle reflex kicked in. It was, quite honestly, adorable.
The video below is a short excerpt from the baptismal rite – I edited it down quite a bit, because the video was rather long and I know that you all really just want to see my child getting her head wet. (Notice my hilarious and highly irreverent expressions during the anointing with chrism. Our priest smeared a ton of chrism oil on Abigail’s forehead, and once I got over being concerned that it would run into her eyes, apparently I thought it was JUST TOO FUNNY.)
p.s. I’ve started a Flickr set here; more photos on the way!
Your facial expressions cracked me up Nikki.
Happy day! You all look radiant.
You are too funny! What a happy day for everyone
(this is Tope, btw . . . future baby blog id
)
Dan’s face is adorable when he’s holding baby Abigail over the fount.
And how attentive and well behaved are those godcousins!
This is so great, Abby!
I’m so ridiculous. 20-some years as a practicing Catholic, and apparently I still haven’t learned how to remain expressionless during Mass.
Dan and I were both laughing later as we watched Abigail’s startled hands on the video. “I feel the Holy Spirit! I feel it! Hallelujah!”
Awww. You know, this will sound very strange, but I’ve never actually heard a priest with an American accent before (discounting movies, obviously!). But then everyone sang Alleluia exactly as we would, and it was just like at home. Yay for the universal Church!
Plus Abigail was very well behaved, and that is one fancy copper font!
