Three-month-old Abigail likes to debut new sounds while her diaper is being changed. There’s something about the changing table that inspires her, I suppose. It was there that we first heard “hi,” “lo,” “la,” “ga,” and a two-syllable word closely resembling “hello.”
During her first diaper change this morning, my husband reported, she looked up at him and exclaimed, “mya!” Mya. Which is clearly a very useful sound, essential if you want to say words such as…such as…um. Myanmar?
She loves talking to us, but she will also talk to herself when the mood strikes. If you hold her up to a mirror, she will stare for a moment, then smile slowly and shyly, bury her face in your neck or shoulder, then peek up again at herself. Besotted, she will then start to chatter and squeal and coo at her reflection. I’m not sure if she realizes it’s her, or if she thinks it’s another baby, but either way it’s pretty adorable.
SOOOOO sweet! Ruthie likes mirrors too, but is less enthralled than Abby.
I love how she looks around at the beginning of the video and you get to see her discover herself in the mirror. She’s such a social little chatty baby! So precious!
Thanks, Jo and Bekah – I think it’s sweet, too. I’m sure she’s too young to understand that it’s her own reflection. Given that she has no idea who that strange baby is, her delighted reaction is extra-funny!
What a cutie
