My husband was supposed to have foot surgery today.
He didn’t (thank you, Lord), and the reason why is a long, long story, but I owe a huge debt of gratitude to a bunch of people who totally stepped up to the plate for us when they thought he would be having surgery. These people are not our family, or our neighbors, or even friends we know in real life – most of them have never met us or our daughter. But they have known me for a long time, and when they saw that we were struggling, they decided to do something concrete to help.
We now have two weeks of catered meals and six weeks of maid service thanks to the efforts of my lovely online friends. And although I do feel guilty, because the main reason for such generous gifts is no longer a factor, I also feel more loved and touched and grateful than I know how to express. I’m so lucky to have friends like these. And my husband and daughter are lucky, too.
It’s true that online friends are not a substitute for family. Sometimes they’re better, though.

Yay! We love you guys. ♥
