So this is me, being interviewed by Ontario Today host Rita Celli. Ms. Celli talked with me about my story in Somebody’s Child, and then took questions and calls with Bruce Gillespie, one of the editors of the book.
My interview takes up the first 11 minutes of the program. The rest is much more interesting and well worth a listen, if you have an interest in adoption stories.
“I know you’re in Washington, DC…so, have you heard of the CBC? It’s like your National Public Radio. Our show airs throughout Ontario, which is one of Canada’s largest provinces.” –the show’s producer (a really lovely woman), during our pre-interview — I guess Americans do have a reputation for ignorance, but this made me feel kind of bad!
Nicole, I listened to your interview this evening. FIrst, your voice does not sound funny! It was a great interview and really provided insight from an adoptee’s perspective on some of the issues that inevitably occur in transracial adoption-dealing with identity, prejudice, and then searching for our birth families. I enjoyed listening and hope that your interview, as well as the discussion that followed, helps the general public understand more about international adoption, as well as domestic adoption.
Thanks, Marijane! I thought the rest of the program was great, personally. Loved the comments and stories from the callers. I also thought Bruce, the editor, did a great job with his discussion — and having to do so live, unedited, made me very glad my interview was pre-taped!
