(apart from the obvious bad vision she will have someday — Dan and I both have terrible vision, so odds are good she will need glasses, too).

FWIW, both of my parents need glasses, and I haven’t yet.

Since becoming her mama, I know my heart doesn’t really reside in my own body anymore, and that vulnerability is something to which I am still adjusting.

Good luck with that. If my mom’s right, and she is a lot, you never get used to that. Several years ago, I took Henry to the pediatrician for an early well baby check-up and my mom came, too. The doctor was a little concerned at the time because Henry wasn’t lifting up his chest while on his tummy like kids are supposed to at that phase.

The dr. asked if there were any family history of muscular disorders. There aren’t and my mom confirmed that, but trumping my own worry in the situation, she became a font of information about my Rheumatoid Arthritis diagnosis when I was 18 months old, and the next thing you know, she was “squalling” as we say down South.

I didn’t know what to do because I was already worried about Henry and now I had her breaking down reliving the problems I had as a baby (none of which I remember, and even if I did it probably wouldn’t be that horrible for me since she’s always more affected by recollections of my “trials” than I ever am).

A friend diagnosed with schizophrenia/bipolar recently shared that while she’s still getting used to managing her illness, she’s adjusting pretty well, taking her meds and chugging along. Her mom, however, is seeing a therapist.

And so it goes…

Of course! Not that we are biased!

I think we’ll get heat back next week, but it DOES suck, because it has been a freezing cold weekend, and the temps will warm up right around the time our heating unit is fixed. Thank you, universe.

Thanks, Cyndi! I think Abby is pretty smart, but I think the main reason she’s got her colors down is just because she has a crazy memory. She gets that from me. And, as I’m always telling people, it’s not the same thing as being super intelligent.

She’s a lot of fun these days. I could do without the toddler tantrums, though. And I can’t figure out why she’ll repeat every damn word I say except “please”!

If you’re a slacker-ass mother, then I’m about to get a visit from Social Services. Abby is clearly a genius. Need to be sure she’s sitting near my daughter in school — we’ll need the help Seriously, though, sounds like she’s really smart and you’re being smart to just enjoy it all!

Yes, that was a reference to the Irving Berlin song from White Christmas. I have that movie memorized. I like to watch it in June. And Christmas is pretty much always on my brain.

As you can see, the cheeks run in the family!
